50) 1940’s Solid Copper Naval Deck Lamp on Tripod

Another magnificent General Electric 1940’s solid copper naval spot light restoration.

017

Works by Marsel – Lamp No 50

This was a very difficult piece to restore as it is a much older model than the previous ones I have restored. Many layers of old paint and residue had to be painstakingly peeled back before the polishing could begin. Many days of cut and polish went into the final finish.

The 1000 Watt light globe and bayonet were removed and replaced with a regular household fitting and a new cotton weave cable and switch installed.

It has been mounted on an antique Miller surveyors tripod. The tripod was also dismantled and the linkages polished up to shine. The tripod linkages on these are also very heavy duty, required to hold up the heavy lamp head.

Another beautiful piece of history to proudly present in your home or office.

48) Original 1940’s WW2 Copper Flood Light

Works by Marsel - Lamp No. 48

An original 1940’s WW2 Naval copper flood light, restored into a unique designer home/office floor lamp. If lamps could talk, the stories this one could tell.

These old copper flood lights were commonly used on the decks of the 1940’s naval war ships and at base camp sites. They were not this beautiful when in service though. Many layers of paint and grit had to be removed from this old lamp to get to the raw copper. Once paint stripped and cleaned, it was then thoroughly machine polished to a magnificent glow.

The 500watt globe and bayonet were removed and replaced to take regular household energy saver globes. A 3 core cotton weave AC earthed cable has been installed with a new vintage style inline on/off switch to suit.

It is mounted on a beautiful designer classical tripod with bronze coated linkages. The tripod legs are solid teak and are adjustable to the desired height.

Alot of man hours have gone into the restoration of this amazing lamp. A piece of war history to proudly display in your home or office and a great investment as it will only appreciate in value as time goes by.

47) 1960’s Strand Pattern 23 Tripod Lamp

Works by Marsel - Lamp No. 47

Another great UK made Strand pattern 23 production theatre light, passionately restored into a magnificent unique home tripod floor lamp.

These Strand 23’s are by far the most elegant of the vintage 50’s and 60’s stage lights and have fast become the most requested lamp by customers. This particular one had a very thick initial coat of primer and paint on it, so when stripped back, the aluminium was very clean and has polished up a treat.

20 hours of machine cut and polish have gone into the final finish to produce a brilliant reflective sheen. The inner vent covers were sprayed with 24kt Gold dust. The 500Watt globe and bayonet have been removed and replaced with a screw in bayonet to take regular household energy saver globes. The back just pops open to change the globe. New cotton weave AC cable and a classic styled on/off switch were installed as well.

It has been mounted on a designer teak chromed nautical tripod. The legs are height adjustable to it can be used as both a floor or table lamp. The centre rod also adjust upward for extra height if required.

46) 1950’s Richard H. Barton Lamp

Works by Marsel - Lamp No.46

An original 1950’s Richard H. Barton of Sydney theatre light. The first I have come across and one of the most beautiful lamps I have had the pleasure of restoring.

Passionately restored into a timeless collectors investment piece and presented on a beautiful classic teak timber & chrome tripod.

The restoration was a challenge to say the least. The entire lamp had to be carefully disassembled down to the last nut and bolt.  Each exterior piece was then painstakingly cut and polished to achieve a high gloss sheen. Most of this lamp is made of metal, so once polished the metal surfaces were hard poly coated to protect them and prevent rust.

The 500Watt globe and bayonet were removed and replaced with a screw in bayonet. The lamp now takes regular screw in energy saver globes. The original Bakelite AC plug was retained and a new classic look switch was installed. All the original badges were retained and hand polished.

An original piece of Australian theatre history to own and present in your home or office.

An original 1940’s Francis naval search light, mounted on an antique tripod featuring a designer world globe as the centre piece.

My greatest lamp project to date and by far the most impressive looking lamp I have ever created. The lamp head is an original 1940’s British made Francis brass search light. It has been lovingly polished and the bayonet changed to take regular household light globes 120volt or 240 volt.

Mounted on a vintage original surveyors tripod with solid brass linkages to suit the lamp and mohogany stained timber adjustable legs. The tripod linkages are heavy duty to support the 10kg search light and 5kg globe.

The centre piece is a magnificently large designer world globe made up of delicately placed crystals and precious stones to form the countries. It rotates on all directions and beautifully compliments the naval theme of this custom lamp.

Fully assembled the entire lamp weighs over 20kg. The lamp head and globe are easily removable for safe transport.

An original 1940’s WW2 Naval copper flood light, restored into a unique designer home/office floor lamp.

Here’s a great find.

41) 1930’s Mole Richardson Hollywood California Movie Light

Works by Marsel - Lamp No.41

An original huge 1930’s USA Mole Richardson Hollywood California Spot Light.

When it comes to vintage industrial theatre lights they don’t get much better than this. These were the original stage lights used in most Hollywood movie classics in the early 1920’s. Not many were imported to Australia so they are extremely hard to find here.

The restoration was challenging to say the least. The lamp head massive (45cm) and very heavy and had to be completely pulled apart to be polished. The 2000watt globe and bayonet have been removed and replaced to take regular household energy saver globes. The back of the lamp pops open to change the globe.

The lamp features ornate detailing and original brass pieces that compliment the polished aluminium. The barn doors are removable for the desired effect.

I chose a 1920’professional  Miller photography tripod for this lamp not only because it is a beautiful tripod but also that the strong linkages on this tripod were required to hold such a heavy lamp head. A strong chain has been installed into the legs for extra support.

A magnificent, grand piece of Hollywood movie history. An investment piece to proudly  own and display in your home or office.
