An original huge 1930’s USA Mole Richardson Hollywood California Spot Light.
When it comes to vintage industrial theatre lights they don’t get much better than this. These were the original stage lights used in most Hollywood movie classics in the early 1920’s. Not many were imported to Australia so they are extremely hard to find here.
The restoration was challenging to say the least. The lamp head massive (45cm) and very heavy and had to be completely pulled apart to be polished. The 2000watt globe and bayonet have been removed and replaced to take regular household energy saver globes. The back of the lamp pops open to change the globe.
The lamp features ornate detailing and original brass pieces that compliment the polished aluminium. The barn doors are removable for the desired effect.
I chose a 1920’professional Miller photography tripod for this lamp not only because it is a beautiful tripod but also that the strong linkages on this tripod were required to hold such a heavy lamp head. A strong chain has been installed into the legs for extra support.
A magnificent, grand piece of Hollywood movie history. An investment piece to proudly own and display in your home or office.

Hello, I like the lights. How did you polish them? I know the Aluminum can take a polish, but I’m not sure how to polish steel. It must have taken a lot of work. I am retiring in a few years from 40+ years as a gaffer and would like to strip, and polisha few of my favorite lighting instruments into retirement also. Any hints on how to proceed?
Thanks

Hi Dan,
Sorry for the late response, I have been so busy I have not logged into wordpress account for a while.
When it come to polishing there is no real easy way but blood, sweat and tears. Hours spent in front of the polishing machine. As long as you are using the correct cutting pad and polishing stick for metal, aluminium, brass, etc.
The metal just takes alot longer to polish but if your not after a perfect finish, the metal does quickly polish to an industrial rustic finish which looks great for most old lamps.
Regards
Marsel.
